Georgia Bulldogs Recruiting: Notre Dame and their chances with Keith Marshall.
Notre Dame does have a chance to land Keith Marshall. They are a very good school and they have great academics.
Marshall is looking for a school to make him better and he already runs a 4.2 forty and has a 4.3 GPA. There are only a few schools that can fit that bill. ND, UGA, and Stanford offer the academics and quality football programs.
The X-factor is that he is a huge fan of Herschel Walker and Knowshon Moreno and he has been a fan of the Bulldogs for a long time.
He likes UNC but with their NCAA problems he will stay away from them.
Stanford seems too far away for me to think he would choose them.
Notre Dame has everything he wants in a school except his historically favorite players.
Playing against UGA is the fact that UGA just picked up the top RB for 2011, and they just received a commitment from the top RB from 2013. If Marshall goes to UGA he will be sandwiched between two #1 RB's.
However, UGA is Tailback-U and Derrick Henry is a bruiser, Marshall is a burner, and Crowell is an All-Purpose back in the mould of Trent Richardson, he is a bruiser and a burner. Marshall is VERY fast and he has the frame to become an every down back.
Notre Dame's offensive style will play against them in recruiting. Marshall really wants to play in a run-heavy pro style offense and he wants talent around him to back him up.
If Marshall goes to UGA he will have a great 3rd down back to spell him and he will have Crowell to allow him to develop before he gets thrown to the fire that is the SEC.
Notre Dame, in my opinion, really needs to join a Conference like the ACC or Big East because it would help with recruiting in the future. Conference Championships are a big deal to alot of young kids. The SEC championship is the second biggest football game in the nation in importance. The winner of the SEC for 5 straight years has gone to win the BCS NC.
I am not trying to kill or dissolve belief that Keith Marshall would go to Notre Dame, because there are many intangibles that could carry them over the top for him. Relationship with other recruits, relationships with the coaches, how much he likes the campus and other students, what his options are financially with moving out of state, or even how he feels he looks in a uniform.
Recruiting is all about what the student wants to do for the next 3-5 years of his life. It is a huge decision that can make all the difference in the world.
Do you remember Mitch Mustain? I bet his wishes he chose Notre Dame or another school. He disappeared when Barkley showed up. ND could be his better choice but so could UGA.
